Is it smoothie season yet? This healthy, plant-based chocolate raspberry smoothie is everything I need in the morning: time and flavor.
This recipe has been updated.
It’s as easy as dumping all of your ingredients into a blender - no chopping, crushing, or any complicated recipe steps.
My homemade chocolate raspberry smoothie is packed with fiber from the raspberries and cocoa powder. If you're for a protein-packed smoothie, check out our protein chocolate peanut butter smoothie.
Additionally, we’re working with FROZEN ingredients, meaning we’re going to have a thick and creamy smoothie - without it being thinned or water down by ice. Frozen fruit is also what helped create my creamy milkshake recipe, without the milk or ice cream.
Although you could technically work with non-frozen fruit (banana and raspberry) I don’t recommend it for this smoothie recipe. The frozen fruit helps with getting that ice-cream, smoothie texture.
On top of that, frozen, store-bought raspberries are perfectly ripe and cheaper, too. Speaking about cheap ingredients, check out our Guide To A Cheap Plant-Based Diet to get started on your affordable plant-based journey.
Alernative To Soy Milk
Whether you don’t have soy milk or choose not to use it, there other alternatives - that are cheaper too.
You can go for plain ol’ water - the smoothie will still be delicious, just a little less creamy.
Other vegan or non-dairy milk alternatives include almond, oat, cashew, and rice milk. If you choose to go for canned coconut milk, I recommend watering it down with water. Maybe using ½ cup of coconut milk and 1 cup of water.
Alternatives To Honey
I understand that not everyone’s a fan of honey, or their diet does not allow it - no problem. There are other sweeteners in the abyss that are both vegan and plant-based friendly.
Here are some:
Or, you could just go for sugar.
